Scott Macbeth is in Spain this week with Ireland Academy for ‘Championship Week’ at the European Cricket Championships.

The Ballindrait man was in superb form in the group phase as Ireland booked their tickets to this week’s Championships in Malaga.

Having come through the group stages to qualify, Ireland will face fellow group winners Spain, Italy, Jersey, England, and Germany, along with 2022 champions the Netherlands who qualified directly to Championship Week.

It’s a fast-paced tournament, with six matches over four days. Should Ireland finish in the top four in the group they will face further matches on Friday, 20 October, with Eliminator, Qualifier One and Two, and the Final all taking place on that day.

Macbeth and Ireland defeated Austria by 61 runs on the opening group day with the Donegal man posting 19-not-out. Ireland had comfortable wins over Finland, Turkey and Hungary.

Ireland clipped 44-not-out in an eight-wicket win over Hungary.

In a second win over Hungary, Ireland went to 168/2 with Hungary managing 114 for the loss of seven wickets. Macbeth blitzed a superb 45-not-out off just 12 balls in the Group D clash.

The Ireland squad has one change for this week as Matthew Weldon has been called in to replace John McNally.

In August, Macbeth scored 90-not-out as Ireland Under-19s defeated England by 72 runs at Loughborough. He moved to Brigade this year having previously featured for St Johnston Cricket Club and this season, alongside his brother Ryan they won the North West Senior Cup.
