Callum Devine returning to defend Harvest Rally title

The Harvest Rally was launched on Monday at Teach Bhillie, Gortahork.

Callum Devine, the reigning champion, will once again head the field in next month’s Donegal Harvest Rally, which takes place in and around the Dunfanaghy/Falcarragh and Gortahork area.

Devine, who was pipped for the 2023 National Rally Championship at the weekend by Josh Moffett, is part of a very strong field of 115 which will go to the start ramp.

The Donegal Harvest Rally or, the Teach Bhillie Harvest Rally as it will be known this season, takes place on Saturday, November 11 and it will be run over two stages.

“Damian Whoriskey of Teach Bhillie, Gorthahork, is the main sponsor of the rally and we are grateful to Damian, a former competitor in the Harvest, for his support for the event,” Suzanne McClafferty, secretary of the Donegal Motor Club told DonegalLive.

The rally was launched on Monday evening in Teach Bhillie and a large number of local drivers and local rally enthusiasts turned out for the launch.

“This year’s rally is confined to Donegal Motor Club members. We had to turn away a large number of drivers from other parts of the country”.

It is understood the late decision to run the rally this season is one of the main reasons why the event is confined exclusively to motor club members.

Tony Boyle is the clerk of the course and he is disappointed that entry this year is limited.

“It is a Motor Sport Ireland decision to confine it to just motor club members,” he explained. “It is disappointing for those who wanted to enter but cannot because they are not members of the Donegal Motor Club.

“But it is good for club members that did not get to go in the Donegal Rally. They are getting a chance now to have one last go before the end of the year.

Last year’s Harvest was called off at the 11th hour due to the tragic Creeslough explosion which occurred the day before the event was scheduled to take place.

Others in what is a strong local field include Declan Boyle, Eamon Kelly, Michael Boyle,, Desi Henry, Kevin Gallagher, Mark Alcorn Kevin Eves and Declan Gallagher.

The rally will be run over six stages with three loops of two stages. The first stage is between Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh and the second stage is between Falcarragh and Gortahork.

Scrutiny is on Friday afternoon at Sweeney’s Garage and service is at PCC Falcarragh.
