Mona McSharry has been confirmed on the Ireland squad for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha.
A finalist at the 100m breaststroke at the 2023 edition of the Championships, the Marlins Swimming Club graduate has already qualified for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
McSharry is part of a 12-strong swimming and three-person diving team that will go to Qatar in February.
McSharry was fifth in the 100m breaststroke at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. The Grange native swam 1:06.07 in the final for fifth having set a new national record of 1:05.55 in her heat - a performance that secured her Olympic qualification.
McSharry will skip the European Championships in Bucharest, but will lead the Irish charge at the Worlds.
At the European U23s in Dublin back in August, McSharry, a student at the University of Tennessee, won golds in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
