Finn Valley AC twins Roisin and Eilish Flanagan were second and third over 8km in the United States on Saturday.

Competing in the 8km race as part of the Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend, the Gortin sisters had useful returns to action.

The race was run by Colorado Springs’ Mahlet Mulugeta in 25 minutes and 43 seconds.

Roisin Flanagan was second in 26:45 with Eilish Flanagan following in 26:51 for third.

The race took place in ferocious wind and are getting back towards form again.

In Italy last December, their 11th and 12th placed finishes were vital as Ireland bagged team bronze medals in Turin at the European Cross Country Championships.

Although not running in Sunday’s National Senior Cross Country Championships, the 26-year-olds will hope to be in consideration again for this year’s event at Laeken Park in Brussels.
