Raphoe BC's Tyler Keaveney wins Ulster 9 County title

Tyler Keaveney won the Ulster 9 County Boy 1 37kg title on Tuesday night.

The Raphoe Boxing Club puncher defeated Enniskillen’s Thomas McDonagh to land the title.

Keaveney, son of Raphoe BC coach Gerard Keaveney - a former Ulster youth champion and National Youth finalist - took victory at the St John Bosco Youth Club in Newry.

It was a veteran display of ring craft from Keaveney, who out-pointed McDonagh on a unanimous decision to win the title.

Earlier this year, Keaveney won a North West Zones title and is on the march again.

There was no joy for Dunfanaghy Boxing Club’s Owen McDonagh, who lost out to Shane Stokes of Gilford BC on a split decision in the Boy

Six Donegal boxers claimed walkover wins at these Championships: Patrick McDaid (St Bridget’s, Boy 1 59kgs); Roisin Hegarty (Illies, Girl 1 53kgs); John Gerard Ward (Raphoe, Boy 2 74kgs); Taylor Parke (Raphoe, Boy 3 38.5kgs); Brian Anderson (Twin Towns, Boy 3 56kgs); Carys McFadden (Dunfanaghy, Girl 3 43kgs).

A further six Donegal boxers lost out in finals which were held on Sunday: St Bridget’s Tyler McGonigle lost out to Jerry McCann from St John Bosco in the Boy 1 43kgs final; Ava Bradley from Illies lost to Massie Flanaghan of Castleblaney in the Girl 1 39kgs final; Ryan Lackey, also of St Bridget’s, was beaten by Bainbridge’s Franky Mooney in the Boy 1 38.5kgs final; Carndonagh’s Colm Callahgan was beaten by Macs’ Kai Flynn in the Boy 2 50kgs final; and Rocco McDaid, another Carndonagh puncher, lost to Immaculata’s Conor Dowds in the Boy 3 final at 59kgs.
