DonegalLive/Donegal Democrat adds Conor Breslin to its sports desk

Conor Breslin will join DonegalLive/DonegalDemocrat in 2024

Conor Breslin will join the Iconic Media Group at the start of January as part of the DonegalLive/Donegal Democrat sports team.

The Donegal Town native has worked as a sports writer and sub-editor for Mediahuis since 2021, following his graduation from DCU with a Degree in Journalism. He’s also recently completed a Masters in Political Communications.

As well as his national print and digital work, the 25-year-old has a wealth of commentating and podcast experience already under his belt.

As part of the Mediahuis group, Breslin has worked on the desk and as a reporter with both the Irish Independent and the Herald. He’s also acted as a sports sub-editor at the weekends for the likes of the Sunday Independent and Sunday World.

“We’re delighted Conor is coming on board,” said DonegalLive/Donegal Democrat sports editor, Frank Craig. “He is already a well-known, established face and voice within the county but Conor also has real experience writing and producing content at a national level.

“Our digital presence DonegalLive, and its various social media platforms, have performed excellently in 2023. But we won’t be standing still.

“We have some exciting and ambitious plans for 2024 so Conor’s appointment is sort of the first of those announcements.

“We already have a very strong stable of sports journalists including Alan Foley, editor; Chris McNulty, digital lead; myself, Peter Campbell and Tom Comack.

“And the addition of Conor will, I believe, not only improve content but the manner and scope in which we deliver it”.

On his new role, Breslin said: “I’m delighted with my new position at the Iconic Media Group. I’m really looking forward to the new challenge ahead.

“I’ve enjoyed these past few years working across a variety of sports around the country. In that same time, I’ve been privileged to work with some really passionate journalists and editors.

“And I’m incredibly grateful to those who have helped and taught me so much along the way, especially those who I have worked with daily on the desk.

“I just think it’s time for a new adventure. I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the sporting beat, covering matches and events in my own home county.

“Living and working in Dublin for a good few years, DonegalLive was always my first port of call to keep up to speed with what was going on back home. They’ve set an amazing pace. So I just can’t wait to come on board with that now myself. It’s exciting”.
