Eddie Gallen finishes second in 24-hour track race

The Across the Years Ireland race was held at the Leixlip Amenities Centre and Finn Valley AC athlete Eddie Gallen ran 209.2 km.

Eddie Gallen finished second in the Across the Years Ireland 24-hour track race.

The Finn Valley AC man completed a total of 523 laps at the Leixlip Amenities Centre.

The race got underway at midday on New Year’s Eve and Gallen clocked top 23 hours, 59 minutes and two seconds. In total, Gallen ran 209.2 km.

The race winner was Cathal McParland, who did 563 laps and went 23:59:35, amassing 225.2km.

In May, Gallen finished second at the Ultrafondo en Pista Ciudad Real 12-hour race in Spain, where  he clocked up 116km in the event.

A few weeks before that, he competed in Valencia and completed 123km to finish second. There, Gallen’s distance marked a new over 60s group record in a range of categories: the 100km; 50km; six-hour; and 12-hour.
