Convoy man Luke Witherow was a part of the Ireland hockey squad last week that lost their third straight game in the Pro League as they were beaten 4-2 by Spain in India.

Spain clinched their first victory in the tournament, earning three well-deserved points. The goals for Spain were contributed by Enrique Gonzalez (2), Marc Miralles, and Marc Reyne.

Despite this setback, Ireland, in their inaugural appearance in the Pro League, displayed glimpses of their potential, managing to score through Matthew Nelson and Lee Cole.

Coach Mark Tumilty of Ireland continued to implement squad rotation strategies, opting to exclude captain Seán Murray, Daragh Walsh, Luke Madeley, and Jonny McKee following the team's previous defeat against Australia.

Though Ireland's goalkeeper, Jamie Carr, made several crucial saves early in the game, he couldn't prevent Spain's opening goal as Gonzalez unleashed a powerful strike with a reverse stick.

As half-time approached, Ireland showcased their prowess with a well-executed move leading to a goal, displaying their best period of play in the match.

Despite their efforts, Ireland faced defensive challenges, notably against Miralles, whose exceptional skills led to Reyne's goal.

Nevertheless, Ireland demonstrated resilience, narrowing the gap with a converted penalty stroke by Lee Cole, reigniting hopes for a comeback.

However, Spain capitalised on Ireland's aggressive push for an equaliser, utilising their counter-attacking prowess, ultimately securing the victory with Gonzalez's second goal of the game.
