Ryan McHugh scored a first place finish in Class 2 at the Fivemiletown Rally in Omagh on Saturday.

The Frosses man and co-driver Declan Boyle also came 12th overall in their Ford Fiesta. Taking to social media this evening, he commented: “It’s been a great day out here at the Omagh Samsona's Fivemiletown Rally.

“And it was class to take 12th overall as well as the Class 2 honours. We’ve got some brilliant gravel miles under our belt over the last couple of weekends and the confidence is really coming on in the car.

“Thanks as always to the guys in service and all our sponsors. Now to get the car back in tarmac spec and look ahead to some savage racing in West Cork”.

Sam Stewart, Kilmacrennan, with Alan Johnston, Manorcunningham, in their Ford Escort Mark 2, also had a super day with a second placed finish in Class 6.

Darren Curran, Redcastle, on the pace notes for Monaghan driver Derek Mackarel, were third in their Ford Fiesta while Shane Byrne, Bruckless, on beside Strabane's Ryan Caldwell in a Skoda Fabia R5 came home in third position.

Finally, Conal McNulty, Creeslough, in the co-driver's seat for another Monaghan steerer, James McCarville, in their Ford Fiesta, ended the day in sixth place overall.
