Frosses man Eamonn Kelly
Frosses man Eamonn Kelly said he is delighted to finally be putting the helmet back on this weekend as he returns to Croatia to contest in the Quattro Rivers Rally for a second year running, as preparation for WRC Croatia later this month.
It’s been a year since the Donegal man last drove his car on tarmac, but he said he’s looking forward to working alongside the Slovenian team IK Sport and getting the best possible practice ahead of the WRC.
It’s been almost a year since Kelly made only his second start in the one-make series as he climbed up the ladder to clinch the victory.
With Conor Mohan from Monaghan calling the notes in a Ford Fiesta Rally4, Kelly was aware of the significance of an Irish win, just over a week after the tragic death of Craig Breen who lost his life in a crash while testing for the Croatia Rally.
Kelly’s car sported a sun visor that day with a quote - “Never give up” - Craig Breen - as a nod to the Irish rallying icon as the Donegal man sealed his maiden Junior World Rally Championship win.
Last February Kelly sped to the podium at Rally Sweden, with the rally driver clinching third in the Junior World Rally Championship across over 300km of Scandinavian snow.
