Gareth Crawford broke the Donegal javelin record on Sunday at the Donegal Athletics Championships.

On home turf, the Lifford Strabane AC man fired the spear beyond 70m for the first time.

Crawford reached out to a new personal best of 70.51m on his third round attempt.

The new mark eclipses his previous best of 68.88m set in Belfast in 2021.

A long-standing stadium record also fell in the process in Lifford. Crawford's 70.51m now goes to the top of the stadium list for the javelin, taking out the 67.90m mark of his father, Damien, that stood for 33 years.

Gareth Crawford won the senior javelin gold from Dylan Kearns of Killybegs AC, who had a best throw of 53.90m.

Damien Crawford took the masters title when going out to 40.53 while he also took hammer (32.7) and discus (30.38m) honours.

Lifford Strabane AC's Adrienne Gallen won a double in the senior hammer (52.90m) and discus (34.55m) while her sister Caoimhe won the junior versions of the hammer (48.97m) and discus (32.56m) with Ashleigh McArdle, also of Lifford Strabane AC, throwing to 35.57m to win the women's javelin.
