Learning to cast and fish at the Owenea River, Glenties at the weekend
The open day at the Owenea Fisheries Office on Saturday was a great success with lots of young and old experiencing the joys of an introduction to angling.
This included demonstrations of how to tie flies, fly cast, spin and marine shore angling. There were exhibits of how the river environment is monitored using aquatic invertebrates and there was lots of interest in this.
There will be lots of requests for new fishing rods for the summer after this event. The weather also contributed to a very enjoyable day with sunscreen and hats needed.
Big thank you to Carina Mahony and her team, for keeping us well fed and watered all day. This was a joint effort between Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI ) local angling clubs and Loop Ireland.
