Donegal boxing stalwart Peter O'Donnell has been appointed as the Ireland team manager for the 2024 EUBC Junior Boys and Girls European Boxing Championships.

The Championships take place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Raphoe Boxing Club man is the President of the County Donegal Boxing Board.

The 74-year-old, who lives in Raphoe, learned of the appointment having been at the National Stadium officiating at the National Junior Cadet Championships.

The European Juniors run from June 21-July 2.

“It is a fantastic honour to be named as the Ireland manager,” O'Donnell told Donegal Live.

“I was delighted to get the call to tell me about the appointment. It came as a surprise, but it is always a major honour to get any international appointment.”

Previously, O’Donnell was manager of the Irish squad at the 2015 European Elite Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, where Joe Ward and Michael Conlan won gold and Dean Walsh took a bronze medal.

He was also the team manager of the Irish Elite squad that took part in the 2021 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
