Roisin Hegarty won her third Irish title at the weekend.

The Letterkenny native and Illies Golden Gloves boxer grabbed hold of the 60kgs title at the National Junior Cadet Championship finals.

Hegarty claimed a slender 3-2 split decision against Olivia Farrell to take a third national crown back to Donegal.

The Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál, Letterkenny scholar edged a gripping contest with St Brigid's, Edenderry woman Farrell.

In her semi-final on Friday night, also at the National Stadium, Hegarty was too strong for West End's Lily Daly. There, the Illies puncher took a unanimous verdict.

The previous weekend, Hegarty had a unanimous decision win over St Catherine's Ruby Cullen in a quarter-final.

Hegarty won her first national title in 2023, claiming the Girl 1 51kgs honours.

Her latest victory is her second Irish title of 2024. In April, Hegarty blitzed an emphatic trail to taking the Girl 2 57kgs title, stopping Rihlee May Cox from Sligo in the final.

There was no joy for Dunfanaghy Boxing Club's Eddie McBride.

In the 52kgs final, McBride was defeated by East Down's Connor Lowry, who took the unanimous decision.

McBride defeated Cashen Vale boxer Brooklynn O'Brien in his semi-final a week earlier to seal a place in the decider.
