Matt Edwards remains in front at the Donegal International Rally

Matt Edwards and David Moynihan have extended their lead and now have a 1.5-second advantage ahead of the chasing pack as Stage 2 in the Mamore Gap comes to a close.

There’s already a big push at the front from the Welshman Edwards, but Keith Cronin and Mickey Galvin remain close behind in second position, while Cathal McCourt and Brian Hoye, in their Ford Fiesta, are third and are currently 11 seconds adrift.

While the first stage in Malin Head remained dry, the rain began to pour down for the end of the second stage and may have a massive impact on Stage 3 in Coolcross.

Outside the top three spot now sees Callum Devine take fourth position and are 13 seconds behind the leaders while former winner Josh Moffitt and Andy Hayes take fifth position after Stage 2 and are only 2.6 seconds behind Moffitt.

Gary McPhillips and Paul Sheridan have pushed Kevin Gallagher off the top spot and now lead the modified section and are 11th overall with the Rathmullan man dropping down six places.

Meanwhile, the rally has already come to a close for Donegal’s Mark Alcorn who was competing in the modified section, but he clipped a wall in the opening stages on Friday.
