Modified leader Kevin Gallagher
2023 Donegal International Rally modified section winner Kevin Gallagher picked up where he left off on Saturday as he looks to hold onto his title.
Going into the second day of rallying, the Rathmullan man currently has the upper hand in his Darrian T90 GTR, over the Toyota Starlet of Ardara’s Declan Gallagher 10.5 seconds.
Speaking at the close of business on Friday in Inishowen, Declan Gallagher was quite content with his opening efforts.
“Conditions, on hard tyres, were tough. Add to that the rain then came on in stage three. We changed tyres then and they worked much better.
“They were three good stages - really enjoyable. And fair play to Kevin, he’s setting a good pace, going really well. It was a good day and hopefully it’ll be the exact same tomorrow””.
In his pursuit to make it a three-in-a-row, Kevin Gallagher said it was early days yet with a number of casualties dropping off in Inishowen on Friday.
“It was a tricky kinda day. It’s a ten-second gap so we’re content enough. A few guys disappeared there in the first stage. So it’s early days yet for everyone.
“The pace in the modified section is serious and Declan Gallagher is going really well.
“It’ll be nice to get down to the home stages on Saturday and hopefully the weather will be good on Knockalla”.
