The Donegal International Rally is far from over with Welshman Meirion Evans and his co-driver Ger Conway closing the gap to just 20 seconds heading into the last stage of the Donegal International Rally in their Toyota Yaris R2.

With their second run around Gartan complete, they have only one final stage to do in Fanad before a winner is decided.

Evans closed the gap between himself and leader Callum Devine by 17 seconds, and with only 20km left in this rally, it is still all to play for.

It was a conservative drive around Gartan for Devine and co-driver Noel O’Sullivan, despite having half a spin towards the end of Stage 18 but Evans was really on the money as he completed the stage in a super time.

However, it was Donegal Town man David Kelly who produced the fastest time on that stage with a time of 6.59.03, with Kelly having a fantastic weekend as he moves into the podium position in third place coming into the final stretch.

Devine will no doubt aim to see this rally out in a conservative fashion, hoping to avoid a crash or a spin and remain steady on the road if he wishes to retain his title in Donegal.

And that looks very likely at the minute with many finding it hard to see him give up a time of 20 seconds.

Elsewhere, despite having an overshoot around Gartan, Josh Moffett produced the second fastest time of that stage, while Declan Boyle, who was having a superb drive in the Citroen, has now bowed out after the driver suffered from issues with his gearbox.

In the battle of the two-wheel drive, Declan Gallagher has an enormous advantage over Gary McPhillips in the modified section but the issue is that his car is giving him issues as he enters the final stage, with the car leaking oil and will be hoping to nurse his car home for the next 20km.
