Brendan Boyce's dream of making it to a fourth Olympic Games finally ended on Saturday.
The Finn Valley AC man attempted an 11th hour qualification alongside Kate Veale in the marathon race walk mixed relay.
On Saturday morning, Boyce and Waterford woman Veale finished sixth in 3:13:34 at Morton Stadium in Santry.
They needed to complete the marathon distance faster than 3:08:44 and also win the race to qualify for the Olympics.
Czechia pair Vit Hlavac and Eliska Martinkova qualified for Paris when finishing in 3:02:09 to win the race ahead of Kenya's Samuel Kieri Gathimba and Emily Wamusyi Ngii, who clocked 3:04:23.
A hamstring injury looked to have put Boyce out of contention for a place in Paris.
Boyce was unable to finish the World Team Championships in Turkey due to the injury, but was given a final throw of the dice at the weekend.
The Milford native competed at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games over the 50km race walk, an event that has since been shelved.
