Ethan Dewhirst set a new lifetime best to qualify for the 400m hurdles semi-finals at the European Under-18 Athletics Championships.
The Tir Chonaill AC athlete won his heat in Slovakia on Friday morning in 52.65 seconds.
That time by Dewhirst shaved over a second off his previous best time, the 53.82 seconds he clocked to qualify for these Championships in May.
Dewhirst breezed into the semi-finals by taking over a second off his PB.
Serbia's Nebojsa was second in 52.80 with Italy's Diego Mancini third in 52.86. German Liam Atwani qualified for the semi-finals when also going 52.86 in the first of the six heats in Banská Bystrica.
Czech athlete Michal Rada was the fastest of the qualifiers, winning the final heat in 51.98 seconds.
Glenties teen Dewhirst is hoping to follow the footsteps of his older brother, Fintan Dewhirst, who won silver in the 400m hurdles back in 2022.
