Donegal jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle was successful in Germany at the weekend
Donegal jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle achieved a significant victory in Germany on Sunday when he guided the favored Al Riffa to success in the Westminster 134th Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten for trainer JP O’Brien.
Hoppegarten is renowned as Germany’s largest racecourse and this prestigious Group 1 event is a highlight of the German racing calendar and offered a prize of £86,956.52 to the winner.
Al Riffa pulled ahead by three lengths as they entered the final stretch of the mile and four-furlong race, comfortably securing the win.
This victory was a second success at the top level for McMonagle, whose breakthrough came aboard Al Riffa two years ago.
"It's my first time in Germany so it's great to come here with such a live chance in a big race," said the winning rider.
