Killybegs AC coach Mary O’Callaghan clocked a phenomenal 24.10 seconds in the 100m over-70s
Killybegs AC coach Mary O’Callaghan delivered an outstanding PB performance, completing the 100m in 24.10 seconds at the World Masters in Gothenburg.
This achievement ranks O’Callaghan among the top 20 athletes worldwide in the over-70s category.
Her success is particularly impressive given that she was recovering from a calf injury just a few weeks ago. The seasoned athlete is set to celebrate her 72nd birthday in two days.
O’Callaghan is well-versed in high-level competition, having won a silver medal with the Irish relay team at the first European Indoor Masters Athletics Championships in Birmingham in 1997. She also represented Ireland at the World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, four years later.
She trains alongside her daughter, Ciara Kearns, a member of Tir Chonaill AC, who is also competing at the World Masters, with the long jump final scheduled for Sunday, 18th August.
