Donegal's own Rhys McElhinney achieved a significant milestone in his rallying career this weekend, securing his maiden victory in the MI Junior Rally Series.

McElhinney's triumph came during the Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club Sprint, where he competed against a highly competitive field of J1000 crews.

The Letterkenny driver demonstrated exceptional skill and consistency throughout the event, recording the fastest times in four out of the five runs. His impressive performance earned him the top spot on the podium, finishing 2.9 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

David Travers claimed second place, continuing a remarkable streak with four consecutive podium finishes. Meanwhile, series leader Oisin McShane rounded out the top three, maintaining his strong position in the championship standings.

The J1000 crews will now turn their attention to the upcoming Clare Forest Rally, scheduled for October 5.
