Paul McCloskey and Mickey Harkin toast their titles
Paul McCloskey of the Illies Golden Gloves and Mickey Harkin from Carrigart Boxing Club were crowned as Ulster Senior Novice champions.
On Friday night at the Crumlin Star Sports and Social Club in Belfast, McCloskey took the 67kgs crown with Harkin grabbing the 57kgs title.
Harkin stopped Koi Beggs from Phoenix in the second round of their contest, the opening bout of the night.
McCloskey earned a narrow 3-2 split decision win over St Bronagh’s puncher Danny Tinnelly
Ballyshannon’s Oisin Lee lost out on a 3-2 split to Dan Ames from Carrick while Alex McAleer, also of Ballyshannon BC, was beaten on a unanimous decision by Gilford’s Eoin McCarron in the 63.5kgs open final.
On Wednesday night in the 75kgs open final, Twin Towns BC’s Declan Duffy was stopped by Erne’s Paul Reid in the third round.
In quarter-finals at middleweight, Anthony McFadden and Eunan McLaughlin, both of Raphoe Boxing Club, lost to Nathan Harkin and Conor Feeney respectively with McFadden stopped in round two and McLaughlin halted in the first.
Ryan McDaid of Raphoe BC lost on a unanimous decision to Conor Herron of Clone in an 80kgs semi while Ballyshannon’s Seamus Waddle lost a 63.5kgs semi at the hands of Mirazai Shocker from Virginia.
