Sunday was a magical day for two Donegal siblings who enjoyed sporting success in two codes.

Jasmine Barrett-Doherty claimed a national gold medal while running for Finn Valley AC and older brother Oran Winston won the Donegal Senior Football Championship with St Eunan’s.

Earlier this year, Barrett-Doherty was named as the primary school girls winner at the Donegal Sports Star Awards.

A consistent performer in athletics she showed her prowess again on Sunday.

At the National Juvenile Relays, held at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown, she was a part of the Finn Valley AC U13 girls team that took gold.

She was joined by Caoimhe McElhinney, Ciara McCusker and Caoimhe McNeill as Finn Valley AC topped the pile, beating off competition from Moy Valley and Mullingar Harriers.

Barrett-Doherty skipped any post-race small talk to dart back to Sean MacCumhaill Park for the Donegal SFC final.

She made the second half and was there in time to see her brother, Winston, come on as a 53rd minute replacement for Darragh Mulgrew.

Winston was in the thick of the action on a day of late drama as St Eunan’s reclaimed the Dr Maguire Cup after a 1-13 to 1-10 win over Dungloe.
