Carndonagh driver Kyle McBride
Donegal's Kyle McBride and Leitrim's Keelan Grogan have claimed the last two nominations for the 2024 Billy Coleman Young Rally Driver of the Year Award, rounding out a shortlist of Ireland's top emerging rally talents.
McBride, a professional motorsport mechanic, earned his nomination following a successful run from June to October, which saw him place third in the junior category of the British Rally Championship and secure second in the Irish and UK Stellantis Cup.
At just 21, McBride is already a seasoned contender, having reached the final three for the Billy Coleman Award in 2022. This season, he has been co-driven by Darragh Mullen from Sligo in his Peugeot 208 Rally4.
Keelan Grogan received a wildcard nomination for 2024, having previously been a finalist last year. Competing alongside co-driver Ayrton Sherlock, Grogan has been a strong presence in the RC4 category across both tarmac and gravel and contended fiercely for the inaugural Irish and UK Stellantis Cup in his own Peugeot 208 Rally4.
Joining McBride and Grogan in the running for the award are fellow nominees Ryan MacHugh from Donegal, as well as Craig Rahill and Jack Harris.
The winner will receive a support package worth up to €50,000 to fund both domestic and international rallies in 2025, backed by Sport Ireland and Motorsport Ireland. In addition to financial support, the award includes mentorship from Billy Coleman coordinator Sean McHugh.
Further support of up to €50,000 will be offered through the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, with a tailored development programme aimed at advancing the winner’s career. Based on performance, the award may be extended for a second year.
Both runners-up will receive a funding package of up to €15,000 each for participation in rallies, along with an invitation to join the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy development programme in 2025.
