Walk with Me in memory of Mary Ellen Molloy will return this St Stephen's Day
The annual Ardara 5k walk/run held in the memory of Mary Ellen Molloy will be held again this St Stephen's Day with the proceeds going to charity.
Following the tragic passing of Mary Ellen Molloy in December 2019, her devoted friends and family sought a meaningful way to celebrate her life while supporting causes close to her heart. This led to the creation of the annual ‘Walk with Me’ event, a commemorative 5K walk held on St Stephen’s Day.
The inaugural walk in December 2020 brought communities together worldwide, with events held in Mary Ellen’s hometown of Ardara, as well as neighbouring Donegal areas. International walks took place in Melbourne, Sydney, and New York, demonstrating the global reach of Mary Ellen’s legacy.
The first ‘Walk with Me’ in 2020 raised an impressive €33,225. Half of the funds were donated to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT), with the other half supporting the Downstrands Family Resource Centre.
The Downstrands and Donegal Family Resource Centres provide critical support for families and young people, offering counselling services and emotional care for those in need.
Donations collected on the day will once again be shared between the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and local charities that support young people and family resource centres. Contributions can also be made via Facebook or the event’s GoFundMe page.
