Cycling enthusiasts from Tír Chonaill GAP Cycling Club embarked on their annual “EPIC” Bike Ride on Friday, December 27, an event that has become a highlight of the local cycling calendar.

The ride certainly lived up to its name, challenging participants to traverse 100 kilometers of rugged Donegal terrain on mountain and gravel bikes.

Starting at The Glen Tavern, affectionately known as Dinny’s, at 8.30am, the riders set out into misty conditions. Their route wound through the scenic roads and trails surrounding Barnesmore Mountain, offering breathtaking views to offset the grueling climbs.

With an impressive 1,600 meters of elevation, the ride tested endurance and skill. Yet, the camaraderie and determination among the group were palpable.

Club member Cess Holden played a crucial role in ensuring the event's success, providing exceptional support to the cyclists throughout the day. At the halfway point, riders were treated to a hearty break at Biddy’s, complete with jumbo breakfast rolls, tea, coffee, and cake — a much-needed boost to tackle the second leg of the journey.

The group completed their circuit around 2.45pm, returning to Dinny’s where well-deserved pints awaited.
