Lifford-Strabane AC's Clara Mullen takes third in U20 women’s pentathlon

Clara Mullen of Lifford-Strabane AC took third in the U20 women’s pentathlon at the national combined events in Dublin.

Mullen amassed 2,314 points for third spot at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena.

Caoimhe Fitzsimons from Ratoath AC was the gold medallist with 3,208 points and Bandon AC’s Aoife Callan, who totalled 2,820 points, left with the silver.

In the 60m hurdles, Mullen was second in 10.07 seconds

Mullen was third in the long jump when going out to 4.52m and was also third in the shot, reaching out to 7.25m.

Mullen placed fourth in the high jump, getting over at a best of 1.41m and clocked 3:06.40 for fourth over the 800m.

Last summer, Mullen won silver in the triple jump at the All Ireland Juvenile Championships in Tullamore.

In the U16 pentathlon, Lifford-Strabane AC’s Cabrini Pyne was fifth, while Ryan Boyle and Millie Sandy, also of Lifford-Strabane AC, were ninth and 15th in the U14 and U15 pentathlons.

At the AAI Games, held alongside the combined events, Castlefin’s Hannah Murray was second in a 200m.

UCD AC’s Murray clocked an encouraging 25.47 seconds with the Shauna Carlin-coached athlete second only to Destiny Lawal of Dooneen AC.

Oisin Toye of Finn Valley AC, meanwhile, collected a bronze at the Mallusk Cross Country.

Toye was pipped for silver by Tom Fleming of Loughview AC with North Down’s Craig McMeechan a fine winner of the senior men’s race.
