The McCafferty’s Bars Donegal Forestry Rally 2025 which was set to take place on February 15 has been postponed due to extensive damage caused by Storm Éowyn along the planned route.

The difficult decision was made by Clerk of the Course Johnny Baird, who, after surveying the area with Coillte engineers, determined it would not be safe to proceed with the event at this time.

Baird, an experienced competitor himself, had hoped to push ahead with the rally but said that the extent of the storm’s impact made it impractical.

“It was clear that it would not be safe to send competitors, officials, marshals, or spectators into the forests in their current condition,” he explained.

The rally organisers are now working closely with Motorsport Ireland and representatives from the Sligo Pallets Irish Forestry Championship to secure a suitable alternative date for the event.

Baird also expressed his gratitude to Donegal Motor Club members, title sponsor McCafferty’s Bars, local businesses, residents, and Coillte, all of whom have been incredibly supportive in bringing the rally back to the Donegal Town, Ballyshannon, and Pettigo areas.

He also extended thanks to the officials and marshals who had already volunteered their time, as well as the record number of competitors who had entered the event well ahead of schedule.

Despite the setback, organisers remain committed to rescheduling the rally and look forward to welcoming teams and fans back to Donegal in the near future.
