Letterkenny woman Emma Gribben has been called into the Ireland Under-20 Women’s basketball squad.

Head coach Karl Kilbride has included Gribben in a 19-strong squad ahead of this summer’s FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket Division B, which will take place in Miskolc, Hungary from August 2nd-10th.

Gribben, a scholarship student at Dominican University in New York, is one of four US-based players in the squad.

Izzy Sullivan (University of Nevada), Lucy Hynes (Lockport Township High School) and Rachel Lynch (Putnam Science Academy) are also included.

Ireland finished 5th in last year’s tournament and are top seeds in Group B of the 2025 edition, with Great Britain and Ukraine their opponents. Head coach Karl Kilbride is hopeful his side can compete for silverware.

Letterkenny Blaze graduate Gribben has previously featured in the green at underage levels.

Coach Kilbride, who is in his fourth season in the role, said: “We were hugely impressed with the level of talent at the two trial sessions we ran. It made our job in selecting an initial group a really difficult one. It’s our job now to harness that talent to create a team, and a culture that is good enough and strong enough to go compete at the highest level.

“We’re going into the FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket Division B as a number one seed, with a huge opportunity to be successful. With the group we’ve named here, we’re really excited for the summer ahead.”

Last weekend, her brother Killian was named as the winner of the Elite 18 Award. He played on Saturday for University of Maine in their defeat by Bryant University in the American East Championship final at the Chance Athletic Center in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Gribben has a 3.86 grade points average (GPA) and he is the men’s basketball Elite 18 honoree for having the highest GPA among champion game participants.
