Olympic badminton player Rachael Darragh made her return to action following surgery in recent days.

The Raphoe woman underwent an operation in February, but was back on the court at the weekend.

Darragh competed at the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Series in France.

Darragh came up against Czech player Kateřina Mikelová, who came out on top. Darragh won the opening game 21-11, but Mikelová hit back to win the next two 21-13 21-17.

The 27-year-old is counting down to the 2025 BWF World Championships, which take place in Paris next month.

That tournament will take her back to the Porte de La Chapelle Arena where she played at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Darragh played Jenjura Stadelmann, losing out after a superb battle 21-13 22-24 15-21, before going down to Carolina Marin 21-5 21-5.
