Frosses driver Eamonn Kelly has surged into the lead at Rally Finland - and stands just two stages from victory.

The 26-year-old leads the charge in the Junior World Rally Championship category and has set three fastest stage times so far.

Kelly, who has Conor Mohan from Monaghan as navigator in their Ford Fiesta Rally3, shot into the lead after SS17.

Kelly holds a 20.7-second lead over Ali Turkkan from Turkey while New Zealand’s Gill Taylor is a further 10.5 seconds back in third; both are also in Fiesta Rally3 cars.

On Friday, Kelly showed a bit of bite when going fastest on the third stage and moving into second at that point.

Kelly landed another pair of stage wins on Saturday. He was quickest over SS14, Leustu, a 16.44km stage, and followed up by surging to the quickest time on SS17, the 20.19km Paijala stage.

Two runs of Ouninpohja now await and stand between Kelly and a famous victory.
