Donegal swimmers make history at Irish Open Swimming Championships

Two Donegal swimmers made sporting history this week.

Anna Hennessy and Eoin Rooney competed at the Swim Ireland Irish Open Swimming Championships in Bangor.

The Swilly Seals duo became the first swimmers with Down Syndrome to compete at a national level programme.

This year is the first time that the Championships have been opened to the Irish Down Syndrome Swimming Organisation (IDSSO).

On Wednesday, Anna, who hails from Letterkenny, and Eoin, a native of Ballyshannon both competed in their respective 100m freestyle events.

Last year, Anna and Eoin competed at the European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Portugal.
