Deele College is thrilled to announce the school's second Golf Classic, a fundraising event that promises a day of fun and friendly competition while supporting Deele College. The annual event will take place on Friday May the 8th at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club.
This exciting event will bring together current and former students, parents, local businesses, devoted golfers and the many friends of Deele College for a memorable day on the fairways and greens of B&S Golf Club.
One of the big questions around the school is, who will make up the four-ball with county stars, Peadar Mogan and Shane O’Donnell, who are teachers in Deele College. Rumours are circulating that Finn Harps star, Joel Bradley-Walsh, another staff member, may be in line for a call up to create a GAA/Soccer combo.
The Golf Classic is a crucial fundraising initiative aimed at supporting Deele College’s extra-curricular activities. The importance of extra-curricular activities cannot be underestimated and initiatives like this helps the school to provide students with access to a wide range of sporting, cultural and educational experiences that enhances and creates a more enriching teaching and learning environment.
The competition will be played in a Full Scramble format with teams of four aiming to hit the lowest score to take home the team award. This format ensures a fun-filled day with zero pressure on players. There will also be prizes for best junior team, longest drive and closest to the pin. On-course refreshments will also be provided.
School principal, Mr Joe Boyle says that he is looking forward to a great day and hopes to see a great turn-out from the local community.
“It is more important than ever that we provide our students with activities outside the four walls of the classroom. The range of activities available in the school has expanded in recent years and it is really important that we have the funds to support this.
“We had an exceptional response to last year’s classic and we are hopeful that we can emulate that this year and have another successful day of golf, while helping the students of Deele College. We would also urge our local businesses to take this opportunity to sponsor tee boxes and greens and help the school with this major fundraiser.”
Fresh from their County Schools’ Cup victory, the school’s golfing success has added extra momentum to this year’s classic. The boys took victory at Dunfanaghy Golf Club under the tutelage of teacher, Mr Andy McFadden and team member, Conor Callaghan is a key member of the organising committee for the Golf Classic.
