Convoy’s Ryan Griffin was tonight named as joint-winner of the R&A Student Tour Series at Triola Golf Result in Portugal.

The Ballybofey & Stranorlar GC member - also involved with Letterkenny GC and Donegal GC Murvagh - was representing NUI Maynooth and led most of the day in the final round, only to bogey holes 14, 15 and 16. However, a magnificent birdie by the Marketing and Psychology student on the last meant +2 for the day and overall, a tie for first on +7, which meant a three-way play-off.

There, England’s Max Weaver was eliminated after the first hole leaving Griffin and fellow Maynooth student Jordan Boles to fight it out. They played two more holes and couldn’t be separated and due to darkness play was stopped - it was declared they would be joint-winners. Going into the tournament, Griffin was tied fifth in the order of merit.
