Mark English bows out of 800m in Belgrade

Mark English bowed out of the 800m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships on Friday afternoon.

English finished fifth in his 800m heat, crossing the line in 1:51.35.

The Finn Valley AC man, who contracted Covid-19 last week, said the race ‘proved a little bit too much’.

Canadian Marco Arop won the heat in 1:48.13 with Sweden’s Andreas Kramer second in 1:48.25, also advancing to the final.

British athlete Elliot Giles did not go under starter’s orders in the heat having picked up an injury in the warm-up.

English will go again on Sunday as part of the Irish 4x400m relay team.
