Mona McSharry will eye up some big performances at the 2022 LEN European Aquatics Championships.

The Malin’s Swimming Club graduate will take to the water in Rome in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events.

Last year, McSharry, who hails from Grange in north County Sligo, reached the 100m breaststroke final at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, finishing eighth. She was the first Irish swimmer since Michelle Smith in 1996 to reach an Olympic final.

The 21-year-old, a student at University of Tennessee, ended 2021 with a bronze medal at the World Short-Course Championships in Abu Dhabi, claiming third in the 100m breaststroke final.

McSharry’s first race in Rome will be the 100m breaststroke heats on Friday.
