Rhys Irwin in action.
The Irwin brothers travelled to Thruxton Race Circuit, amidst the blistering August heat wave to compete in round six of the British Superbikes Championship and the Kilmacrennan brothers didn’t disappoint.
Rhys Irwin, racing in the Supersport Championship on the Astro Triumph, qualified when placing 8th and 10th in race one and two respectively.
Astro Triumph expressed delight with Rhys's performance over the weekend.
The team said: “This is a hard year for us as a team. We are developing the Triumph in the premier class at BSB, trying to get the bike set up perfect. Rhys is performing well above all our expectations and we are getting closer to overcoming the problems we are having with the new bike, and getting real good results.”
Caolán Irwin, racing on the R&R Yamaha, also had good pace finishing in 13th place.
“I love this track it fast and very unforgiving,” Caolán said.
“We have spent the weekend trying to keep cool which has been tough but I am coming away delighted with how the weekend's racing went and with good points for the Championship.
The brothers travel to Cadwell Park in two weeks’ time for Round seven of the British Superbikes where their races have live TV coverage.
