Brendan Boyce has been forced to withdraw from Sunday's National Race Walk Championships due to illness.

The Finn Valley AC man was due to go under starter's orders on Sunday at St Anne's Park in Raheny.

However, the 36-year-old was forced out of the event.

“Unfortunately due to a severe case of male ubiquitous body illness I won't be able to compete at the nationals championships,” Boyce tweeted.

“Apologies to all those who have bought tickets but there will still be some great athletes on show for anyone heading to St.Annes Park.”

A three-time Olympian, he was 10th in the 50k race walk at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The 50k event was scrapped and, over 35k, the Milford native was 10th at this year's European Championships in Munich having been 25th at the World Championships in Oregon.
