The changeable weather did nothing to dampen the spirits at Donegal Town Summer Festival. Our photographer Thomas Gallagher was out and about capturing some of the festival atmosphere.
Running from June 30 to July 2, the festival was a huge success with lots of family fun activities and live music entertaining the crowds that flocked to the town throughout the weekend.
Organisers and those who planned to attend must have been feeling a little apprehensive as the rain bucketed down on Donegal Town on Friday. But thankfully the clouds dispersed just in time for the first ever open air cinema screening to take place in the town.
Mary McGettigan from the organising committee said: "It was so lovely to see families gathering together, sitting with their picnics and their chairs and blankets and enjoying the film. It was a such a special start to the festival."
Kids activities continued all weekend, and there was top class entertainment from local bands and performers to renowned tribute acts Slippery When Wet and Qween, to the highly entertaining Tumbling Paddies and the ever popular Nathan Carter.
Hardly surprising to those who have had the pleasure of seeing them, one of the biggest talking points of the festival weekend was the performance by local group Onóir. Following recent sell out shows in The Balor Arts Centre and An Grianan, they recently added a third night to their upcoming run in the Abbey Arts Centre. It sold out almost instantaneously.
There is so much love for this band who deliver spine-tingling vocals and magnificent, committed musical performances every time they take to the stage. This was a great opportunity for home audiences to enjoy a local band that are already attracting a huge amount global attention.
Mary said: "It was a fantastic weekend all round. We would like to thank everyone who was part of that in any way - the public for coming out and enjoying the festival, the performers, the small team of volunteers who make it all happen and the businesses who supported us."
The team are busy dismantling the stage and packing everything up until the next time, while social media provides snapshots of a wonderful weekend that is already being remembered as one of the best festivals that the town has seen.
