Principal Ciarán Mac Ruaidhrí commended the spirit of initiative and attainment in the daily life of the school. The students, parents and staff then listened to guest speaker, Charlene McGuire talk about her own journey as a former student of Gairmscoil Chú Uladh to her career as a quantity surveyor and successful business owner.

Looking back on her own school days, she said she was uncertain where her future lay after school. She advised students to work hard at whatever they do and to give each task 100%, no matter how big or small.

“Once you become good at what you do, you become more confident”, she noted, “and you will then begin to see what opportunities lie ahead for you. Success will follow”.

Prizes were awarded for both academic and extracurricular achievements, culminating in the Student of the Year award which Charlene presented to Sixth Year student, Síle Ní Mhairtín. Special thanks to Múinteoir Ó Mhorda who organised the event and good luck to all examination students.

Lá Aitheantais Ghairmscoil Chú Uladh “Déan do dhícheall, ná stad a choíche” – Aoi speisialta Charlene McGuire - iarscoláire agus bean gnó

Bhí bród san aer i nGairmscoil Chú Uladh sa Ghaeltacht Láir ar an 23ú Bealtaine ag an ócáid aitheantais. Chruinnigh pobal na scoile le chéile chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar na daltaí a rinne iarracht mhór i réimsí éagsúla le linn na scoilbhliana.

Labhair an Príomhoide, Ciarán Mac Ruaidhrí faoi na héachtaí a rinne na daltaí i gcúrsaí tinrimh, acadúla, Gaeilge, spóírt, seach-churaclaim agus Eitis. D’éist na daltaí, tuismitheoirí agus na baill foirne leis an aoi speisialta, Charlene McGuire ag caint faoina turas féin ó Ghairmscoil Chú Uladh go suirbhéir cainníochta - quantity surveyor- i mbun a comhlachta féin i Londain.

Ag amharc siar ar a scoil-laethanta féin, dúirt sí nach raibh a fhios aici caidé ba mhaith léi a dhéanamh tar éis scoile, ach go ndearna sí a dícheall ar scoil i gcónaí. “Tiontaigh suas agus tabhair 100%” a dúirt sí. Rinne Charlene cur síos ar a céad phost i Londain le comhlacht tógála. Thosaigh sí ag an bhun, ach de réir a chéile, chuir sí suim sa tsuirbhéireacht chainníochta - quantity surveying - áit a bhain sí céim amach san earnáil seo. Lena fear chéile bhunaigh siad comhlacht s’acu féin “Storm Building Ltd” - anois, is é ceann de na comhlachtaí tógála móra le rá i Londain.
Bronnadh duaiseanna i gcuid mhór réimsí. Chuir ceol na ndaltaí go mór leis an ócáid fósta. Buíochas le Mhúinteoir Uí Mhorda a d’eagraigh an lá.
