Comedian Conal Gallen all set for the stage in Letterkenny this evening

Comedian Conal Gallen and his cast are set to appear at An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, tonight, October 27, with the show starting at 8pm.

Conal Gallen‘s brand-new comedy play, 'Up The Poll', is certain to cause plenty of laughter. It seems some of the characters in the play are being compared to well-known politicians.
This particular play changes characters for each side of the border, in the Republic of Ireland production, they have a political character by the name of Martin Meehole, and on the other side of the border, the same character is called Donald Jefferson.
“If you can’t take it, then don’t dish it out.  I don’t see the problem with taking the mickey out of politicians, I mean, they’ve been taking the mickey out of us for years. Just because it may be true, or too close for comfort for some of them, well, tough! Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is purely intentional,” Conal said.
Conal then describes the main plot: “Bridie Murphy sees herself as the ideal candidate in the upcoming election. She is selfish, greedy and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. She has just found out how much money politicians get. A huge salary, expenses, private health insurance, a massive pension, travel expenses, free staff and they also get paid for turning up to work as well. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong about the job description,” says Conal.
“But, Bridie is likeable. And she’ll do anything for handy money. When questioned by her unscrupulous treasurer, Father O’Reilly, that what she is doing might be illegal, her reply should be carved in stone above every parliament building. Listen, Father, we are in politics now, the law doesn’t apply to us,” he said.
Conal and his co author, son Rory, have written seven original full length comedy plays.
You can catch up with Conal and the cast at An Grianán Theatre tonight in Letterkenny.
