Deputy Ward calls on the Minister for Housing to declare a national emergency

Deputy Charles Ward urged the Minister for Housing, James Browne, to ‘call the housing and homelessness crisis what it is: a national emergency’ in the Dáil chamber.

The Donegal Deputy said: ‘This crisis has been going on for over a decade now. Over ten years of lack of housing, rising rents, crumbling homes and increased homelessness.’

The 100% Redress Party TD said that the number of people experiencing homelessness in Ireland has increased by 80% in just three years and according to Census 2022, the largest age group among the homeless population was 0–4 year olds, accounting for 11.4% of the total homeless population.

Deputy Ward stated: ‘In Donegal, these numbers will only continue to rise as many families impacted by the defective concrete crisis face potential homelessness. It is clear from these figures that the government is failing.’
