The 100% Redress Party has formally called for a Special Emergency Meeting of Donegal County Council in response to what it describes as a deepening national crisis impacting families, workers, carers, and businesses across Donegal.

The request has been submitted by Cllr Tomás Seán Devine, and is supported by fellow 100% Redress Party councillors Cllr Denis McGee, Cllr Joy Beard, and Cllr Ali Farren.

The meeting has been proposed for this Wednesday, to urgently address escalating pressures, including soaring fuel costs, unaffordable home heating oil, mounting pressure on working families, businesses struggling to survive and the ongoing failure to resolve the Defective Concrete Blocks crisis.

The party says the situation has now reached a breaking point, with many families unable to meet basic living costs.

Speaking, Cllr Denis McGee said: “People across Donegal are at breaking point. Families are cold in their homes, workers are going into the red just to get to work, and businesses are on their knees. This is not sustainable and it cannot continue.”

The purpose of the emergency meeting is to allow elected members to formally address the crisis and take a clear position on the Government’s response.

As part of this, a motion will be brought forward calling for the resignation of Micheál Martin and Simon Harris on the basis that confidence has been lost in their ability to lead during this critical time.

Speaking on the treatment of protesters, Cllr Tomás Seán Devine said: “People across this country have taken to the streets in peaceful protest because they are at breaking point, and instead of being listened to, they have been met with threats and intimidation. That is completely unacceptable.

“These are ordinary working people, families, farmers, and business owners who are simply asking to be heard. The way they have been treated is appalling and shows a complete disregard for the reality they are facing. Leadership means listening to your people, not threatening them.”

Speaking on the ongoing defective concrete blocks crisis, Cllr Joy Beard said: “Families are still living in homes that are deteriorating day by day. Many are trapped in a scheme that is not working for them, while appeals drag on and conditions worsen. This is a humanitarian crisis that has been ignored for far too long.”

Cllr Ali Farren added: “People have protested peacefully across this country, but they are not being listened to. This emergency meeting is about standing up for those people.”

The 100% Redress Party is now calling on all councillors to support the emergency meeting and to stand with the people of Donegal during this crisis.
