Thomas Pringle, Independent, is coming more to the fore, closer to home in Killybegs with a first preference tally of 2,539 in Donegal from the 10,434 who made up the poll.

That was 24.3 per cent of the vote, with John McNulty from Kilcar, who is running for Fine Gael, managing 1,632 (15.6 per cent). Noel Jordan of Sinn Féin made some movement in the tally for Donegal, picking up a vote of 2,144 (20.5 per cent) of the first preferences.

Sinn Féin have been performing well across the board in the early totals. Pearse Doherty scooped 1,199 in Donegal - 11.5 per cent - and Pat the Cope Gallagher of Fianna Fáil picked up a healthy 1,501 (20.5 per cent). Charles Ward from the 100 Percent Redress Party took 101 firsts, one percent.
