Out now! First edition of new ‘Rebuild Donegal’ magazine launches

The Rebuild Donegal magazine will provide a guide for homeowners affected by defective concrete blocks

A new magazine, Rebuild Donegal, has been launched to provide information and advice for homeowners across Donegal and beyond who are facing the devastating reality of defective concrete blocks.

The publication, which runs to 228 pages, is designed as a comprehensive, practical guide for families embarking on the difficult journey of demolishing and rebuilding their homes.

Edited by Damian Dowds, Rebuild Donegal brings together clear, step-by-step information on every stage of the rebuilding process - from applying for the State’s grant scheme to planning, financing, construction and even interior finishing.

The magazine is packed with detailed and diverse content. Among the highlights are Building Back Better which shares the Dowds family’s rebuild story; First Steps, advice on applying to the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme; and an interview with Community Facilitators Michelle Coyle and Anne Marie Lyons from the Inishowen Development Partnership who explain the supports they can provide to applicants.

Homeowners will also find expert advice on Designing Your Home, insights from quantity surveyor Claire Irwin on managing costs and contracts, and practical guidance on construction options - including choosing between blocks, timber frame or ICF. Other features cover topics such as energy efficiency, solar power, minding your mental health, project management, landscaping and the latest interior design trends.

The magazine also features a directory of trusted tradespeople and service providers, many of whom have direct experience supporting affected homeowners through the reconstruction process.

“This magazine is not about the politics of the defective blocks scheme - that’s something we cover extensively online through DonegalLive.ie and in our local newspapers,” editor Damian Dowds said. “Rather it’s about providing practical guidance, encouragement and advice for affected homeowners, whether they’ve already made a start on fixing their home or are wondering how to even begin.”

With its first edition available in shops across Donegal and bordering counties, Rebuild Donegal stands as a vital resource and a message of hope - a roadmap to rebuilding and recovery for every homeowner affected.

Published by Iconic Media Group, Rebuild Donegal runs to 228 pages and retails at €5.95 in all good stockists around the Donegal and Derry.
