St Naul’s Pipe Band, Argaghey has led the tributes to beloved member Sean Kelly following the sad news of his death.
Sean, of Derrycramph, Cavan, passed away peacefully at Cavan General Hospital on Wednesday surrounded by his family.
A spokesperson for St Naul’s Pipe Band - known locally as the Ardaghey Band posted a tribute on social media saying: “With heavy hearts we announce the untimely passing of yet another loyal and dedicated band member, Sean Kelly from Cavan.
“We as a band are devastated and we will miss his witty banter and storytelling.”
Sean’s death follows the passing of a number of fellow longstanding members in recent years.
The spokesperson continued: “We are sure he has joined his heavenly pipe band members Seamus McCann, Charles Kennedy, Vincent O Donnell and Brendan Gallagher; may they all rest in peace.
“We express our sympathy to all his family and friends during this very sad time.
“Rest in peace Sean.”
Predeceased by his parents John Joe and Kathleen and his brother Felim, Sean will be sadly missed by his sisters Pearl, Patricia and Carmel, brothers-in-law John, Jim and Bud, sister-in-law Bernie, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and nieces, his very good neighbours, his colleagues at Bus Eireann, all his fellow pipe band members, all his extended family and his wide circle of friends.
His remains are reposing at the McMahon Funeral Home, Farnham Road, Cavan on Friday evening from 5pm until 8pm.
Funeral Mass takes place on Sunday at 2pm in the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim, Cavan followed by burial in St Patrick's Church, Drumcor in the family plot. Sean's funeral Mass can be viewed live on www.cavantownparish.com/webcam
Donations in lieu of flowers in Sean’s memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Cavan General Hospital, via donation boxes in the funeral home and the cathedral.
