Donegal Town RFC Under-14s clinched their second consecutive Ulster Shield title in emphatic fashion on Saturday, overcoming Clogher Valley 45-12 at Meadowbank Sports Arena, Magherafelt.

A commanding first-half performance set the foundation for victory, with Donegal’s power and precision proving too much for their opponents.

Clogher Valley started brightly, enjoying sustained possession and putting Donegal’s defense under early pressure. However, Donegal soon turned the tide, spearheaded by a dominant display from No 8 James McGarrigle.

The powerful forward broke through the Clogher defence to touch down for the opening try, before adding a second in quick succession. Both efforts were converted by out-half Gareth O’Neill, giving Donegal an early cushion.

With momentum firmly in their favour, Donegal showcased their attacking prowess. Winger Jenson Pingree displayed blistering pace to cross for a fine solo try, while captain Gareth O’Neill added his side’s fourth score with a well-taken effort. McGarrigle then completed his first-half hat-trick with another surging run from deep.

As the half drew to a close, Donegal produced a resolute defensive stand, repelling Clogher Valley’s sustained pressure to take a commanding 33-0 lead into the break.

The second half began in similar fashion, with McGarrigle notching his fourth try of the contest. Despite the scoreboard pressure, Clogher Valley refused to capitulate and were rewarded for their perseverance with a well-earned try in the corner. They continued to press, adding a converted score to reduce the deficit and inject some renewed energy into their performance.

Donegal, however, responded in kind. Forwards Callum Moohan, Kyle Leslie, and Aaron Hanafin carried strongly, ensuring their side retained control in the physical exchanges. The backs, led by the sharp playmaking of Senan Melly and Michael Gallagher, continued to probe for opportunities.

Scrum-half Seigh O’Sullivan effectively linked forwards and backs, while O’Neill and Pingree combined for a well-worked move that saw the captain cross for his second try of the match, rounding off a comprehensive victory.

As the final whistle sounded, jubilant scenes erupted among the Donegal players and their coaching staff, led by Head Coach Stephen O’Sullivan. A large contingent of traveling supporters cheered their side’s triumph, recognising not only the quality of rugby on display but also the sportsmanship exhibited by both teams.

Donegal Scorers:
James McGarrigle (4 tries)
Gareth O’Neill (2 tries, 4 conversions)
Jenson Pingree (1 try)
Senan Melly (1 conversion)
