Sadhbh McGrath made her World Cup debut as Ireland took a comprehensive 42-14 win over Japan in their opening game at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.
Scott Bemand’s side had the perfect start to their group at Franklin’s Gardens in Northampton, leading by 28-7 at the break.
Tries from Amee-Lee Costigan, Neve Jones, Beibhinn Parsons, Fiona Tuite, Eve Higgins and Enya Breen helped Ireland to the win, with Dannah O’Brien kicking all six conversions.

As the game drew to a close, Bemand emptied his bench, with Burt native McGrath coming on for the final minutes.
Ireland’s next match is against Spain next Sunday, before a final group match against New Zealand on September 7.
