Ed McGinty featured for Oxford United in Monday’s FA Cup third round tie against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The goalkeeper joined Sligo Rovers in 2016 and played with the Showgrounds side until he was snapped up by League One Oxford last summer. Born in Motherwell, McGinty lived in Ballyshannon whilst at Sligo.

Republic of Ireland U-21 international McGinty, who played schoolboy football for Celtic and Motherwell, made his debut for Oxford in an EFL Cup win over Championship side Swansea City in August, making a crucial save in the penalty shootout victory.

Then, on St Stephen’s Day, the 23-year-old made his Football League debut in a 3–0 defeat against Ipswich Town. On Monday at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford held Arsenal scoreless for 63 minutes before Mohamed Elneny opened the scoring with a header and Eddie Nketiah's double secured the win.
